Unit 8 recap

Four lessons about travel and memory:

In this review, you'll put it all into practice in 3 situations close to DELF A2 exam tasks.

1

Interview 🎙️

You're a journalist and each month you do an interview with a well-known person for your magazine. Today, you're interviewing Elsa Régnier, a photographer who has just released a new travel-photography album with La Petitia publishers.

💡 For English speakers: note that une interview is a borrowing from English and stays feminine in French. The French press-interview style is more literary and less Q&A than what you'd see in Rolling Stone or The Guardian — expect long descriptive paragraphs around the quotes.

Elsa Régnier — Her first trip

Photographer Elsa Régnier has just released a new travel-photo album with La Petitia. This seasoned traveller tells us about her very first trip abroad.

« Mon premier voyage à l'étranger… ça m'a donné le goût du monde. »
🎧 Listen to Elsa Régnier's interview

⚠️ You can listen twice.

Take notes as you listen 📝

Answer the interview questions based on what you hear.

  1. En quelle année a-t-elle fait son premier voyage ?
  2. Quel âge avait-elle ?
  3. Comment s'est passé le voyage ?
  4. Pendant combien de temps ?
  5. Avec qui est-elle partie ?
  6. Pourquoi ce pays ?
  7. Combien de temps a-t-elle situé là-bas ?
  8. Est-elle retournée dans ce pays depuis ?

📝 Write the article (120-180 words)

Using your notes, write an article telling the story of Elsa Régnier's first trip. Give it a title, a standfirst, and write the story in passé composé / imparfait.

2

Package tour 🏝️

Pick one of the two roles below. Prepare your arguments. Then act out the scene with a partner.

💡 For English speakers: un voyage organisé is a "package tour" or "guided group tour". Think of it as a coach trip across Europe with a Trafalgar or Cosmos group — same dynamic. Une agence de voyages is a "travel agency" (not "travel agent" as a person — that would be un agent de voyages).

😤 Role A — The unhappy tourist

You've just come home from a package tour abroad and you're shocked by the group's behaviour during the trip: noise, disrespect at heritage sites, constant lateness, big shopping sprees instead of sightseeing… You talk to the travel agency manager.

💡 Use expressions of consequence (L27: si…que, trop…pour) and the passé composé with agreements.

🛡️ Role B — Travel agent

You work for a travel agency. A tourist was shocked by the group's behaviour during a package tour. You try to find excuses for the group ("it's cultural", "the heat", "they don't know each other"…).

💡 Use c'est… qui / que (L27) and direct & indirect object pronouns (L31) to defend the agency.

Trip to India ✉️

On 10 February, you receive the postcard below. You then write an email to a friend to share the news. You tell her what Pauline and Mathilde have been up to on their holiday.

🇫🇷 Cultural note: Pondichéry (Puducherry) was a French colony in India until 1954, which is why French is still spoken there and the architecture has a Mediterranean feel. The French spelling Bombay is still common in casual writing, even though Mumbai is the official name today.

Bises, Pauline & Mathilde

📧 Write your email to Aline (100-150 words)

📌 Sujet : Des nouvelles de Pauline et Mathilde !
